Despite a gimpy ankle which had Brett Favre listed as “questionable” on the official NFL injury report all week, he made his 257th consecutive start at QB on Sunday.  He also made it a memorable one, throwing a personal best six TD passes as the Jets pounded the visiting Arizona Cardinals 56-35.  Favre also tied the legendary Joe Namath for the NY Jets team record for most TD passes in a game.

Favre put up three of his six TD passes in the first half as the Jets stormed out to a 34-0 halftime lead on the Cardinals.  The Cardinals did a little storming of their own in the third quarter, as Edgerrin James ran for 2 TDs and Tim Hightower added a third to cut the Jets lead to 34-21 heading into the 4th quarter.  Favre threw his remaining three TD passes in the final stanza as the two teams traded scores en route to the final margin.

Having added another superlative to his Hall of Fame career, Favre was understandably pleased with his performance:

"Throwing six touchdown passes was awesome. That had nothing to do with how I felt I played. It was one of those games. More importantly, I felt the overall game itself, I managed it well."

The Jets also made it back to the .500 mark at 2-2 on the season.  The team has a bye next weekend and will have a chance to get above the “Mendoza line” in the following three weeks as their opponents (Kansas City, Cincinnati and Oakland) currently have a combined 2-10 record.  The forthcoming bye week for the Jets will also allow Favre to further rest his injured ankle.

Arizona doesn’t have it anywhere near as easy despite returning home for their next two contests.  Their next three opponents (Buffalo, Dallas and Carolina) have a combined 10-2 record.  The Cardinals offense has been very productive this season, but their defense has been porous.
