Isiah taken to hospital for sleeping pill od, tries to cover it up

Just when you think that you’ve heard the last of ethically challenged former NY Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, here he is back in the headlines with yet another strange story.  This one is particularly tawdry as it appears that “Zeke” has implicated his teenage daughter as a victim of a sleeping pill overdose to protect his…uh…”good name”.

The story began after the media reported that police and paramedics were summoned to Isiah’s Westchester County home in response to a 911 call.  Police spokesmen confirmed that a 47 year old male was taken to the hospital to be treated for an overdose of sleeping pills.  There was no suicide note, and authorities concluded that the victim simply lost count of the pills he was taking.

However, Isiah started to spin the story insisting to the media that it was his 17 year old daughter who had been taken to the hospital.  He claimed to the NY Post that his daughter hadn’t OD’d on the sleeping pills but was suffering from what he tried to paint as depression or anxiety:

“It wasn't an overdose. My daughter is very down right now. None of us are OK."

Harrison Police Chief David Hall, whose officers responded to the incident, wasn’t about to let Zeke pull off one of the worst advised cover ups in recent memory.  He confirmed to the media that it was Isiah who was taken to the hospital and then blew up the former Piston great for his weak attempt at subterfuge.

"It wasn't his daughter.  And why they're throwing her under the bus is beyond my ability to understand."

He then offered the following hilarious crackback to “Zeke’s” assertion that the victim was in reality his daughter:

My cops ... know the difference between a 47-year-old black male and a young black female. These people should learn something from Richard Nixon -- it's not the crime, it's the cover-up”

Thomas was finally fired by the New York Knicks in April after running the franchise into the ground and putting the team through a sleazy sexual harassment lawsuit.   Despite Isiah proving that he was as inept at coaching and running a team as he was excellent on the court, the Knicks inexplicably kept him around as something of a “figurehead” with a job title of consultant/advisor.  The team had the following statement:

"Isiah Thomas spoke with members of the New York Knicks organization and is OK. He is dealing with a family matter, and we will have no further comment. He has asked that we respect his privacy, and we will."

Translation—“Zeke isn’t our problem anymore.  We’ve got a basketball team to run. Leave us alone.”
