#4 Oklahoma routs Nebraska
2008-11-01
The Oklahoma Sooners rolled off 35 unanswered first quarter point against Nebraska en route to a dominating 62-28 blowout win. OU led 49-14 at halftime and 62-21 at the end of three quarters before coasting to the final margin. The win also further validated the balance of power shift in the series—OU has now won 5 of the last six meetings after Nebraska had won the previous seven.
The Sooners capitalized on four first half Nebraska turnovers, including three first quarter interceptions. QB Sam Bradford threw for 311 yards and 5 TD with only one interception. For the game the Sooners amassed 508 yards of total offense on 315 yards passing and 193 yards rushing. The offensive assault produced the most points that OU has ever scored against Nebraska.
Not surprisingly, Cornhusker head coach Bo Pelini was at a loss to explain the performance:
"I've been in a lot of games. I've seen it happen. The snowball started rolling on us, and we didn't do anything to get it stopped."
The loss left a rebuilding Nebraska team at 5-4 on the season. The schedule gets somewhat easier from here on out starting with a game at home against Kansas next Saturday. That’ll be followed by a road contest at Kansas State and a home game against Colorado to close out the season.
Oklahoma, meanwhile, faces a much more difficult road beginning at Texas A&M next Saturday. They’ll have a bye week followed by a home game against #2 Texas Tech on 11/22 before they conclude their season with the traditional rivalry game against #9 Oklahoma State.
