Cavs beat Bucks behind 55 from Lebron
2009-02-23
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been hot on the tail of the Boston Celtics all season, and they kept pace on Friday night defeating the Bucks at Milwaukee 111-103. The Cavs were led by LeBron James, who scored a season high 55 points as Cleveland won their third straight game.
Milwaukee had the better of Cleveland in the first half and entered the locker room for the halftime break holding a 57-51 lead. After halftime, however, LeBron took over scoring 16 points in less than three minutes from the start of the third quarter. He would finish one point shy of his career high of 56, though he was more concerned with getting the “W” for his team:
"Just got in the zone, man. I saw a few go down, so I just kept going at it, man. Every shot that I made tonight, every shot that we all made tonight, we needed."
"I always have fun. That's the name of the game for me. I'm out there competing, wanting to continue to get better every day."
LeBron’s teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas could only marvel at the performance:
"It was almost like watching a video game.”
Even head coach Mike Brown was rendered a mere spectator as LeBron took over the game:
"I've just got to coach myself. I've got to make sure that I'm not overcoaching. And I just need to sit down, be quiet, and watch the show like everybody else."
LeBron did have some help, with Mo Williams adding 23 points and Ilgauskas contributing 11. Milwaukee was led by Charlie Villanueva’s 26 points and 13 rebounds. Richard Jefferson added 17 points, Charlie Bell 15 and Ramon Sessions 12.
Cleveland will host Detroit on Sunday and Memphis on Tuesday before heading to Texas later in the week for games with Houston on Thursday and San Antonio on Friday. Milwaukee will host Denver on Sunday before travelling to Dallas on Wednesday and New Orleans on Friday.
