BIG 4TH QUARTER PROPELS BILLS TO WIN OVER DOLPHINS

2009-11-30
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG Maybe a coaching change is just what the Buffalo Bills needed.  Having fired Dick Jauron two weeks ago and given Perry Fewell the reins as interim head coach, the Bills’ offense is clicking and on Sunday they delivered their new leader his first NFL victory.  Buffalo used a 24 point fourth quarter explosion to put away the Miami Dolphins and win by a 31-14 final score.  Terrell Owens struck a big blow late in the game as he caught a 51 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Buffalo improved to 4-7 on the NFL season while Miami dropped to 5-6.

The outright win also gave the Bills the victory against the NFL pointspread as +4 home underdogs.  Buffalo is now 6-5 ATS on the year, while Miami is 5-6.  The 45 combined points scored went OVER the posted total of 38.  The Bills have gone OVER in five of their eleven games this year, while the Dolphins have exceeded the total in 7 of 11.

After the game, Owens took a swipe at Jauron claiming he had wanted to be aggressive on offense all season:

"Well, he's two weeks too late. I've been wanting to be aggressive all year."

"I think we were hitting at that last week, and we just came up a little bit short. But we were very confident even though we lost. ... We prepared hard and it showed out there."

Added Fewell:

"How sweet it is, baby. We've been talking about finishing. That's what we did today."

In the losing locker room, Dolphins’ head coach Tony Sparano took responsibility for his team’s defeat:

"Our team knew exactly what was at stake when we came in here to play this ballgame. We did things, quite honestly, that 3-7 teams do in the fourth quarter. I've got to take responsibility. It's my fault."

Added defensive veteran Jason Taylor:

"We dropped the ball. We can't blame anybody but ourselves. Obviously, what we're doing now is not the trick."

Miami cornerback Nate Jones commended the Bills on their tenacity:

"They came out and fought like dogs. They took advantage of our mistakes and beat us fair and square. There are no excuses."

The Bills will now host the New York Jets on Thursday night, with Buffalo a +3 home underdog and the total set at 37.  They’ll then play on the road at Kansas City before returning home to take on the New England Patriots on December 20.  The Dolphins host the Patriots this Sunday, with the game currently off the board as New England plays Monday night.  They’ll play their following two games on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
