BRONCOS FEND OFF UPSET MINDED ‘BAYOU BULLDOGS’

2009-11-09
FLORIDA COACH URBAN MEYER RESIGNS….AGAIN Boise State remained undefeated with a 45-35 victory over Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana on Friday night but the win was anything but easy.  The Broncos actually trailed in the first quarter and had to fend off a second half Bulldogs comeback that saw Louisiana Tech draw within two points early in the fourth quarter.  Ultimately, the host team was no match for the firepower of the #7 Broncos.  Boise State is now 9-0 while Louisiana Tech fell to 3-6.

College football betting enthusiasts who took the +20 with Louisiana Tech as a home underdog had a much easier time of things, with the pointspread cover never in any serious doubt.  The Broncos led by 20 at the half but never held a lead of more than that.  The Broncos are still an impressive 6-2 ATS, but both of their losses against the number have come on the road.  The ‘Bayou Bulldogs’ evened their college football pointspread mark at 4-4.  The 80 combined points scored went well OVER the posted total of 53.  Both teams evened their college football totals record at 4-4.

Broncos QB Kellen Moore never demonstrated any evidence of panic, and after the contest said that he enjoys playing in tight games:

"We know we are going to have people's best shots. It's kind of fun playing in tight games I think. Throw in a little pressure and it just shows the resiliency of this team.  We made more plays then they did tonight when it mattered and we were able to finish it out"

Boise State coach Chris Peterson said that no matter the margin they put on the board, it’s never good enough for some critics:

"That's how it always is when we play. It's never good enough, but it's good enough for us. We are going to try to do better next week and just go from there."

Louisiana Tech began to cut into the halftime margin when Moore threw an interception that was returned 75 yards for a touchdown.  He took the blame for giving the Bulldogs new life with his miscue:

"Throwing that stupid pick, I think that really gave them some momentum that they were able to build on and take advantage. I think that certainly kept them in the game and it is definitely something that I shouldn't have done."

Despite the loss, Tech coach Derek Dooley was happy with the way his team hung in there:

"It looked like the game was going to get away from us, but I was really proud at how well we did in the second half. We didn't make the plays at the end of the game we needed to win, but if we keep fighting the way we've been fighting, we'll play out of it eventually."

Boise state will host Idaho next weekend before traveling to Logan, Utah for a game against Utah State.  They’ll return home on November 27 to host Nevada.  Louisiana Tech’s schedule won’t get any easier next week as they travel to Baton Rouge to face SEC powerhouse LSU.  They’ll then head west to play at Fresno State before ending their season at home on December 5th against San Jose State.
