COWBOYS NIP REDSKINS IN LOW SCORING AFFAIR
2009-11-24
Tony Romo threw a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to overcome a dismal performance by the Dallas Cowboys offense and earn his team a 7-6 victory over their arch rival Washington Redskins. The Redskins led 6-0 at that point thanks to a field goal each in the second and third quarters. As has been the case for most of the season, the Redskins’ defense played well but received no help from their offense. Dallas was happy to escape with the win by the slimmest of margin, and improved their record to 7-3. Washington slumped to 3-7.NFL football betting enthusiasts who backed the Redskins as +10’ road underdogs were rewarded with the pointspread cover. It was only the Skins’ third cover of the year against the NFL pointspread for a 3-7 mark against the number. The Cowboys evened their record at 5-5 ATS. The 13 combined points obviously went UNDER the posted total of 41’. The Redskins have gone UNDER in six of ten games this season, while the Cowboys evened their NFL totals mark at 5-5 having gone UNDER in three straight games.
Dallas QB Romo had to fight through the pain caused by a hit to the back in the first quarter, and he gave this account of the game:
"I've always felt like, no matter what is really wrong -- as long as it's not a broken bone or something that's going to keep you out -- just on the adrenaline of the game, you can always do it. That's just part of football, part of understanding that's the only way to play the game."
Redskins’ coach Jim Zorn said it was a tough loss for his team after a highly competitive effort:
"To lose it like that in the end in a hostile situation, it's just so hard. Yet, we hung in there. I believe this is a special team of players who will not just chuck things in being 3-7. ... We're going to look at our roster, patch it up and go again."
Washington QB Jason Campbell echoed his coach’s sentiments:
"Other than a couple of plays, we pretty much beat them. It's been a crazy season. We keep losing one player after another."
Romo and the Cowboys will be back in action on Thanksgiving Day as they host the Oakland Raiders. Dallas is a -14 home favorite with the total set at 40’. After that they’ll return to the gridiron on Sunday, December 6 as they travel to play the New York Giants. That’ll be followed by a game against the San Diego Chargers at home the following Sunday. The Redskins will play at Philadelphia this Sunday, with Washington a +9 road underdog and the total set at 41. They’ll host the New Orleans Saints the following Sunday before playing on the road at Oakland.
