PATRIOTS RIP BUMBLING JETS
2009-11-25
The season started off great for the New York Jets and their rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, but for the past month he’s look every bit like an NFL neophyte. He had another rough game on Sunday as the New England Patriots intercepted him four times en route to a 31-14 home victory. New England scored the first 24 points of the game and basically coasted home from that point. The Patriots improved their record to 7-3 while the Jets dropped to 4-6.The Patriots also got the money for their fans who bet on NFL football cashing tickets as a -11 home favorite. It was the fourth pointspread cover in five games for New England, who are now 6-4 ATS on the year. The Jets dropped to 4-6 ATS on the season and have lost three straight to the number and six of their last seven. The 45 points scored pushed against the total.
New England’s Leigh Bodden snagged three of his team’s interceptions and said there was a lot of intensity generated by the near miss at Indianapolis a week earlier:
"There was a lot of emotion from last week, not finishing the game. We definitely wanted to finish this game."
Bodden also praised the leadership of his coach, Bill Belichick and how he rallied the team after the Colts’ loss:
"It was a heartbreaker but guys just rally behind him and move forward when he says move forward."
And finish they did, leaving the Jets thoroughly beaten in all phases of the game. Linebacker Bart Scott summed up the situation:
"We are a desperate football team. There is no magic remedy."
For his part, quarterback Sanchez accepted blame for the loss:
“I have to play smart. I tried to do a little much against a great defense."
Head coach Rex Ryan tried to sound positive with this assessment:
"We got outplayed today, but our confidence is still there."
The Patriots face yet another big game against an undefeated team on the road this Monday as they head to New Orleans to take on the Saints. New England is a +3 road underdog with the total set at 56. After that they’ll play at Miami the following Sunday before returning home on December 13 to play the Carolina Panthers. The Jets will host Carolina this Sunday as a -3 home favorite with the total set at 42. They’ll play their next two games on the road against the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
