PATS REMAIN PERFECT AT HOME WITH WIN OVER DOLPHINS

2009-11-11
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG The New England Patriots used standout performances from quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss to take a 27-17 home victory over the Miami Dolphins.  Brady threw for 332 yards and a touchdown against one interception, and Moss caught the touchdown pass—a game breaking 71 yard play.  New England improved to 6-2 on the season with a perfect 5-0 mark at home.  Miami dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

While New England won the game, Miami brought home the bacon for NFL football betting investors’ who took the Dolphins as +11 road underdogs.  The cover enabled Miami to even their NFL pointspread mark at 4-4, while New England is also 4-4 on the season.  The 44 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 47.  The Patriots have gone UNDER in 5 of 8 this season, while the Dolphins have only three UNDER verdicts in eight games.

In what had been a ‘grind ‘em out’ game until that point, Miami had just taken a one point lead when Moss’s 71 yard touchdown broke up the game.  Pats’ guard Logan Mankins saw the effect it had on his opponents:

"That's like getting stabbed in the heart right there. You grind it out for like 10 minutes and finally score, and then in like a minute and a half we come right back."

Dolphins’ linebacker Jason Taylor concurred:

"It was tough for us. The offense had just come off of a great drive but Randy Moss made a play ... what he's done for a million years."

Vontae Davis was given the responsibility of covering Moss:

"That's Randy Moss. He's going to make his plays and I just tried to limit him the best I could."

New England quarterback Brady also gave his receiver props:

"He's so fast.  It's always nice for a quarterback when you see the back of 81 sprinting down the field."

Moss was relatively low key recounting his spectacular touchdown play:

"Everybody did what they had to do and 71 yards later it was a touchdown.”

New England faces a big challenge this weekend as they head west to play the undefeated Indianapolis Colts on the road.  The Patriots have been set as +3 road favorites with the total posted at 50.  They’ll return home the following Sunday to host the New York Jets before they hit the road again for another big game, this time on Monday Night Football against the undefeated New Orleans Saints.  The Dolphins return home this weekend to host in-state rival Tampa Bay.  The Dolphins are a -10 home favorite with the total set at 44.  They’ll then play back to back road games against Carolina and Buffalo.
