ROMO, COWBOYS TOP EAGLES

2009-11-16
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG Tony Romo had another effective game, throwing for 307 yards and a touchdown against one interception as the Dallas Cowboys went on the road and beat the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles 20-16.  Dallas has won four straight games and took over sole possession of first place in the division.  The Cowboys improved to 6-2 on the season while the Eagles dropped to 5-3.

NFL pointspread players who ‘invested’ in Dallas as +3 road underdogs were rewarded with the outright victory.  The Cowboys have covered three straight and improved to 5-3 against the number.   The Eagles have an identical 5-3 mark against the spread.  The 36 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 49.  Dallas has gone OVER in five of their eight games this season, while the Eagles played only their second UNDER verdict of the year for a 6-2 NFL totals mark.

Dallas had clearly relished an opportunity to atone for one of the worst losses in franchise history.  The Cowboys were thrashed 44-6 on the final day of the 2008 season in a game with playoff implications for both teams.  Dallas linebacker DeMarcus Ware said that the team had ‘circled’ their return to Philly:

"Our last loss against them really motivated us to come out and play good.”

QB Tony Romo added:

"We executed. I think the coaches put together a good plan. You just have to keep fighting and getting better."

Romo threw the game winning touchdown to his favorite target of late, receiver Miles Austin.  Austin recalled the catch:

"I made sure I caught it first. A bunch of the guys were making fun of me because I took so long to see it in my hands."

Dallas will now play at Green Bay on Sunday.  The Cowboys are a -3 point road favorite with the total set at 47’.  They’ll host their hated—and struggling—rivals the Washington Redskins the following Sunday before a Thanksgiving Day home game against the Oakland Raiders.  The Eagles have two straight games away from home, starting this weekend at San Diego.  Philadelphia is a +1 road underdog with the total set at 47.  They’ll head to Chicago next Sunday and return home to host the Washington Redskins on November 29.
