TITANS BLAST BUMBLING BILLS

2009-11-16
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG Maybe a quarterback change was just what the Tennessee Titans needed all along.  Since the change to Vince Young as their starting signal caller, Tennessee has won three straight including a 41-17 blowout of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.  Chris Johnson ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns, plus caught nine passes for 100 more yards as the Titans improved to 3-6 after a 0-6 start to the NFL regular season.  The Bills lost their second straight game and are also 3-6 on the year.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who took the Titans as -9 home favorites were rewarded with the pointspread cover.  Both teams now have a 4-5 mark against the NFL pointspread The 58 combined points scored went sailing OVER the posted total of 41.  The Titans have gone OVER in six of nine games this season, while the Bills have gone UNDER in five of their nine contests.

After the game, Johnson noted that defenses now have much more to think about with the more mobile Young under center:

"Defenses, they have to choose. Do you want to stop 10 [Young]? Or do you want to stop 28? That's what me and Vince say every day. Whichever one you choose to stop, the other one is going to have a good day."

The game was tied in at 17-17 in the third quarter before a 24 point Titans outburst in the final frame put it out of reach.  A frustrated Terrell Owens said that the late game fade was business as usual for his struggling team:

"What's new? That's how it's been the last seven or eight weeks. We lose games in the third or fourth quarter."

Bills head coach Dick Jauron had little to say about his own team’s struggles, but did take the time to praise Tennessee’s Johnson:

"He accelerates so quickly, and the option adds a whole new dimension. The option play is really difficult to defend.”

The Titans will try to keep their winning streak going as they travel to Houston for a game against the Texans on Monday Night, November 23.  They’ll host the Arizona Cardinals the following Sunday before going back on the road to face the Indianapolis Colts at the Lucas Oil Stadium.  The Bills will have another road game next Sunday, heading to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars.  They’ll then return home for the next two contests, hosting the Miami Dolphins on November 29 and then playing a Thursday night game against the New York Jets on December 3.
