VIKINGS RIP PACKERS IN FAVRE’S RETURN TO GREEN BAY
2009-11-02
Brett Favre’s return to Green Bay may have been dramatic, but it wasn’t competitive. The Vikings opened up a 17-3 halftime lead before coasting to a 38-26 victory. Favre was booed mercilessly by his former fans at Lambeau Field, but it didn’t seem to bother him a bit as amassed 244 yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions. Minnesota improved to 7-1 on the NFL season while Green Bay dropped to 4-3.NFL football betting enthusiasts who took the Vikings as +3 road underdogs were rewarded by Minnesota’s outright victory. The Vikings improved to 5-3 against the spread while Green Bay slipped to 4-3 versus the number. The 64 combined points scored went OVER the posted total of 46’. Minnesota has gone OVER in six of eight games this season, while Green Bay has exceeded the total in four of seven.
Favre commented on the chilly reception in his postgame interview:
"Packer fans cheer for the Packers first. I know that. But I hope that everyone in the stadium watching tonight said, 'I sure hate those jokers on the other side, but he does play the way he's always played.'”
Receiver Percy Harvin was one of Favre’s favorite targets on the day:
"He's played this game a long time, he sees a lot of stuff that a lot of quarterbacks can't see. And he can make a lot of throws that a lot of quarterbacks can't make. With us being explosive, to add him was like a blessing in disguise."
Packers’ cornerback Charles Woodson understands that the game had far greater implications than the final score:
"I think it was disappointing for a lot of people. It's just a loss, but I think a lot of people really wanted this one bad. We let a lot of people down today."
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers rebounded from a horrible first half to finish with 287 yards and three touchdowns, but took a physical beating from the tenacious Viking defense. He spoke of his condition after the contest:
"I'll be OK in a couple of days. This one will hurt for a couple of days, though, physically and mentally."
He insisted that the personal duel with Favre wasn’t his primary concern:
"I hate to losing to whoever's at quarterback for them. I hate losing to the Vikings."
Minnesota will enjoy a bye week before returning to action on November 15 at home against the Detroit Lions. They’ll host the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears the following two Sundays. Green Bay will try to get back in the win column this Sunday as they travel to play the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Packers are a -9’ road favorite with the total set at 44. They’ll then return home for their next two games, hosting the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
