LATE GOALS LEAD INTER MILAN TO VICTORY OVER JUVENTUS
2010-04-19
Inter Milan outplayed Juventus for most of their Serie A matchup on Saturday, dominating the shots on goal and time of possession tally but couldn’t get a goal until late in the contest. Ultimately, they’d score twice in the final twenty minutes of play to earn a 2-0 victory over a feisty Juventus team that played the entire second half with only ten men due to Mohamed Sissoko’s red card booking in the 37th minute. The win allowed Inter Milan to keep pace with Series A leading Roma, though they remain one point behind after this weekend’s action.Soccer betting fans that backed Inter Milan as a -160 home favorite were no doubt sweating for much of the game, but eventually cashed their tickets thanks to the victory. Takeback on Juventus was a hefty +425 with the draw priced at +255. The two goals stayed UNDER the posted total of 2’. The loss continued Juventus’ road struggles this season with a record of 7 wins 8 losses and 2 draws.
Internazionale controlled the game throughout, holding a 64% to 36% time of possession advantage and a sizable 25-12 edge in shots but couldn’t put anything on the big scoreboard until Maicon scoring effort from the edge of the penalty area at the 70 minute mark. Samuel Eto'o added an insurance goal in stoppage time, heading home a crossing pass from Sulley Muntari.
After the game, Eto’o said his team was ready for this week’s Champions League contest against Barcelona:
"It was a difficult and tense game, but the important thing is we won and are now awaiting Tuesday's match. We must get ready in a relaxed manner, testing out and predicting it in our minds, because you play games like this with your head more than anything else.
"Would I celebrate if scoring against Barcelona? Of course I would at San Siro, but at the Nou Camp I wouldn't celebrate in front of my old fans. Barcelona are the strongest side in the world right now, but every match is different and we want to write history."
Following Tuesday’s game against Barcelona at the San Siro, Inter Milan will resume their quest for the Serie A title hosting Atalanta next Saturday. The second leg of the Champions League set with Barcelona will be played in Spain on April 24.
