BILLS SHOPPING TRENT EDWARDS, RYAN FITZPATRICK PLAYS WELL IN BILLS’ LOSS

2010-09-27
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG The Buffalo Bills have benched starting quarterback Trent Edwards for the second time in two years, and this time they look ready to part ways.  Ryan Fitzpatrick played well in a competitive Bills’ loss to the New England Patriots on the field while in the front office rumors have surfaced that Edwards is on the trading block.  Fitzpatrick threw for 247 yards with two touchdowns—and two interceptions—as the Bills lost to the New England Patriots 38-30 in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

Buffalo is 0-3 SU this season but got the money for NFL football betting enthusiasts for the first time this season as they covered the pointspread as +14 road underdogs.  The Bills are now 1-2 ATS on the season while the Patriots improved to 2-1 SU but dropped their second straight game to the pointspread.  The 68 combined points went well OVER the posted total of 42’.  New England has gone OVER in all three of their 2010 games, while Buffalo went OVER for the first time in three games.

Fitzpatrick may very well have the highest SAT scores in the NFL—he’s a graduate of Harvard University—and despite some bad decision making at time looked very comfortable facing the New England Patriots on their home field.  At the very least, he infused some life in the NFL’s least productive offense but was still disappointed they didn’t get the win:

"We felt like we had a chance and we came up short. The offense played better today, but it's all about winning."

Bills’ coach Chan Gailey wants to see Fitzpatrick improve his decision making without hampering his willingness to make plays:

"He's always trying to make a play. You've got to give him credit for that. I don't want to temper him, but I want him to be smart."

That comment along with Fitzpatrick’s performance doesn’t bode well for Edwards getting his job back anytime soon.  Earlier this week when coach Gailey announced the change he said he that Fitzpatrick was "going to take the reins and see where that takes us."

Reports indicate that the Bills spoke to at least one other team about a possible deal for Edwards.  The team contemplated dealing Edwards this offseason but eventually relented.  Running back Marshawn Lynch is reportedly on the trading block as well, and with the emergence of former Clemson standout C.J. Spiller that possibility looks very strong as well.
