COLTS RIP GIANTS IN BATTLE OF THE MANNING BROTHERS

2010-09-20
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG Sunday night’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants had been billed as the classic sibling rivalry game pitting Eli Manning against his older brother Peyton Manning.  In this instance, the elder Manning got the best of his younger brother as the Colts easily beat the Giants 38-14. Peyton Manning finished 255 yards, 3 TD passes and no interceptions while Eli put up 161 yards, 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  The Colts got a boost from their rushing game as Joseph Addai and Donald Brown combined for 161 yards on the ground.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who opted to lay the points with the Colts cashed their tickets after the game with an easy pointspread cover.  Indianapolis improved to 1-1 both straight up and against the number on the 2010 season, while New York dropped to 1-1 both SU/ATS.  The 52 combined points scored made it OVER the posted total of 48, though it took a ‘meaningless’ Eli Manning to Hakeem Nicks touchdown pass in the final two minutes of the game to finally exceed the total.  Both the Giants and the Colts have gone OVER in each of two games this season.

After the game, Peyton Manning said the Colts’ rushing attack was the key to victory:

"I really just kind of focused on the defense and on our running game. This was a different kind of game for me. The run really was the ticket tonight."

He also spent ten minutes talking to brother Eli after the game:

"I told him I loved him. I think they will be fine. They play the Titans next week and we'll being pulling hard for them to help us in the AFC South. We will do our best to help them when we play all these NFC East teams. I am proud of him and I love him."

Eli Manning offered no excuses for his team’s substandard effort:

"We couldn't get into a rhythm. The whole first half, when you can't get first downs, it's hard as an offense to get into all your plays and your calls, and a lot of three-and-outs. They outplayed us, and that's what it came down to."

The Colts’ pass rush gave Eli Manning trouble all night long, sacking him four times.  Dwight Freeney had two of those sacks:

"We go into every game thinking this is what it is going to be. I think as a player you have to think that way, that we are going to shut these guys down. It doesn't happen every week, obviously ... it's not surprising."

The Giants will try to get back on the winning track as they host the Tennessee Titans next Sunday followed by another home game against the Chicago Bears.  The Colts will hit the road for their next two games, heading to Denver and Jacksonville.
