KNOWSHON MORENO MISSES DENVER’S LOSS TO COLTS
2010-09-27
The Denver Broncos lost to the Indianapolis Colts 27-13 on Sunday and they did so without leading rusher Knowshon Moreno. The NFL injury report indicated a hamstring related issue, though Broncos coach Josh McDaniels would only reveal that Moreno suffered "a little something" at practice that kept him out of Sunday’s game. Moreno has 2 touchdowns and 111 yards rushing on 39 carries in two games this season.Broncos' quarterback Kyle Orton was undeterred by the latest injury news:
"You've just got to keep on moving on. There's nothing you can do or say about it. We've been dealing with this stuff all year. And whoever's in the huddle, we expect them to perform."
The entire Broncos running back corps has dealt with an injury of some sort or another during the 2010 season. Correll Buckhalter hurt his neck in training camp and missed several weeks, though he's back in the lineup and looking to step up his game:
"Without going through a preseason and getting banged around and stuff for that month, my preseason's kind of been the last two games we played. So just getting the chance to get the rust off, I'm kind of feeling like myself right now, especially late in the week."
Moreno also suffered a right hamstring injury in training camp that caused him to miss the entire exhibition schedule. The third running back on the Denver roster, Laurence Maroney, has been dealing with a minor thigh injury but practiced on Thursday and played on Sunday against the Colts.
Denver played this game with heavy hearts following the death of teammate Kenny McKinney. Mario Haggen had these thoughts about him:
"Kenny, he's resting in peace right now. I think we're going to leave it at that. He'll be with us forever. I'm not a big advocate on dedicating a football game to someone, but he'll always be in my heart and forever a good guy and a teammate."
From a football standpoint, the Broncos’ real problem was an inability to score touchdowns in the red zone as QB Kyle Orton knows full well:
"You need touchdowns down there. You know he's going to come down and get his.”
Denver coach Josh McDaniels defended his playcalling:
"You're going to win this game with touchdowns, not field goals. I'd do the same thing again.”
NFL football betting enthusiasts who backed Indianapolis as -6 point road favorites cashed their tickets with the Colts’ victory. Indianapolis improved their record to 2-1 on the season while Denver dropped to 1-2. The 40 combined points scored went UNDER the posted total of 46’.
