PACKERS’ QUARTERBACK RODGERS SUFFERS CONCUSSION IN LOSS TO REDSKINS

2010-10-11
TITANS WILL TRY TO TRADE VINCE YOUNG Green Bay Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Washington Redskins and is listed as 'questionable' for next week's game against Miami.  Given the NFL’s long overdue emphasis on proper treatment of concussions, it’s very unlikely that he’ll be cleared to return to action so quickly.  Rodgers played the entire game at Washington, completing 27 of 45 passes for 310 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  He passed 10,000 yards in career passing yardage in the process.

The injury looks like it occurred on Green Bay's final drive of the game.  Rodgers was hit hard on the play that ended with a LaRon Landry interception and was slow to get up. Matt Flynn was warming up on the sidelines but never got a chance to get into the game since Washington scored on their next possession. Rodgers' concussion doesn't seem to be serious but obviously that's hard to determine accurately without the appropriate medical tests.

In addition to Rodgers’ concussion it was very rough day for the Packers on the injury front.  Tight end Jermichael Finley suffered a knee injury on the Packers' first offensive drive and had to be removed from the field on a cart.  Finley’s injury came as he tried to make a tackle on Redskins’ safety Kareem Moore following a fumble recovery:

"I was like, 'Should I really tackle this guy, because something crazy is about to happen?' In the back of the mind, I was like, 'I shouldn't do this.' And I went after it. And something in the back of my leg popped.”

Tight end Donald Lee injured his shoulder later in the quarter.  The Packer defense wasn't immune from the injury bug either as DL Ryan Pickett and linebacker Clay Matthews both left the game early.  All of the injured Packers are currently listed as 'questionable' for next week's home game against the Miami Dolphins.

The Packers not only lost the game outright but lost the money for NFL betting enthusiasts as a -2’ point road favorite.  The 29 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 45.  Green Bay’s game next Sunday against Miami is currently off the board pending a resolution of Rodgers’ status.
